To Board, or Not to Board

Today’s topic is one that most parrot owners face at some point - boarding. I admit that after several years, 12 to be exact, of owning my conure I had never boarded him overnight.  But the day came when boarding was my only option. I was terrified my feathered companion would come back home naked as a chick. Well, boarding day came and pick up day finally came a few days later. I was shocked! There wasn’t a single feather out of place. Once at home, I also noticed he picked up some “natural” flock behaviors and seemed more settled and mature.
So, the next time you think a weekend without birdie would be nice, follow your instincts.  You never know, he may enjoy the company, especially if he is an only chick.  As long as the facility meets “your” standards and is a clean, safe environment for birdie, consider scheduling an overnight trip to see how things go. If nothing else, it will help establish a routine for when boarding is your only option.
