Kitchen Cabinets: A Potential Danger

Many times parrots perch on top of kitchen cabinets while we are preparing their food dishes. If this sounds like you be aware of the potential threat of your parrot getting a pinched toe.

When parrots are perched on open cabinet doors, wedge a piece of towel just above one of the hinges to prevent them from snapping shut.

When cabinets are not in use, be sure they are closed properly. A half open and unwedged cabinet door is a potential toe threat.

Remember, parrot's feet get a lot of use and damage through the years and can become arthritic. Provide lots of different perches in your bird's cage (house), secure safe perching places throughout your house and encourage your bird to set on them by offering him a treat when he is perched in okay spots.

Hope to see you next time, and happy parroting.
